Daily Leadership Starter: Use for Consistency & Excellence | #Leadership

There is a consistency in excellent leaders that people come to trust. You hear people say, “I can always trust this leader to ____________.” To develop this consistency and excellence in your leadership, start your day with the following daily leadership starter.
Daily Leadership Starter for Excellence & Consistency
-
Do a quick self-awareness inventory every morning. How do you feel today? Did you sleep well? What challenges are going on in your personal / home life and how do you feel about those? Your behavior toward those you lead can vary greatly depending on what is happening before you get to work. Be aware and manage your behaviors!
-
Seek first to understand. Ask open-ended questions (who, what, when, where, how) to learn and closed-ended (Y/N) to confirm. Practice this daily to become a consistently great leader.
-
Complete this sentence: I am a great leader when I _____________. Now, have you ever asked those you lead their definitions of a great leader? Do it! Also, keep a record of how your own answer to that changes over time. You will find it enlightening.
-
What have I done so far to develop those I lead? Great leaders develop and boost the skills of those they lead and tap their natural talents for the greatest results.
-
What am I doing every day to lead morale? Great leaders don’t wait until morale plummets and then try to boost it. They lead morale every day with these behaviors and actions.
And the Focus on Those You Lead
As the well-known inspiration guru, Dale Carnegie, once said, “Inspiration is like bathing. You have to do it every day for it to take effect.” Well the same is true for becoming consistently excellent leaders. Moreover, a morning daily leadership starter gets you into the mindset that will guide your leadership steps all day.
