Global #PeopleSkillsChat Topic: Eliminating Stigmas
When I think of respect and dignity for all human beings, I also think of how stigmas create the opposite of that. Stigmas that society inflicts tear apart societies with unaddressed pain. People inflict those marks of shame on others rather than reaching out and offering help, guidance, and love. We can do far better than that in this world.
Will you please join us in People Skills global Twitter chat (Hashtag #PeopleSkillsChat) on Sunday, Feb 9, 2020 10am EST to share your insights on what stigmas actually do and steps to eliminating stigmas from our lives.
Global People Skills Chat: Eliminating Stigmas
As we explore this topic in the upcoming People Skills global Twitter chat, here are some questions to get us thinking in advance. Actual questions will post live during the chat on Sunday 10am EST.
- How do you define stigma?
- What examples of stigmas come to your mind?
- What is the difference between a societal norm and a stigma? Are there connections between the two?
- Why do people/societies create & inflict stigmas on others?
- What inner fears and needs drive people to inflict stigmas?
- What are the negative effects and full impact of stigmas?
- How can we eliminate stigmas from this world? Replace with what?
- What role do religious beliefs play in creating stigmas, if at all?
- Picture yourself with someone who is living the pain of a stigma? What do you think they feel?
- How can people skills help us replace stigmas with something far better?
