Leaders, sharing natural talents sounds easy and wonderful. Yet creating a sharing talents culture shows you what stops employees from doing just that. It may seem ridiculous. Why wouldn’t everyone automatically want to benefit from other’s talents? Sharing natural talents with each other should be easy, right? Well here are the blocks that get in the way and how to move them out of the way.
Leaders, How to Create a Sharing Talents Culture!
Let’s tart with why have a sharing talents culture? Some traditionalists will say that people use their talents to complete their own work. That’s ancient. Today’s work requires people to interaction and collaborate. And why wouldn’t you want them to share their natural talents to create new ideas, solve problems better, and deliver great results? Moreover, there’s a bonus in it for you too. When you encourage employees to use their natural talents, morale goes up. You are showing them that they matter — individually! And that their talents matter to each other.
Remove the Blocks to Sharing Natural Talents
A few years back when I wrote 25 natural talents to appreciate in your employees, the feedback was fantastic. Leaders said it inspired them. I now add to this discussion the blocks get in the way of sharing natural talents and how to move them out of the way.
-
Leader’s insecurity. Many employees don’t want their own talents to unsettle the leader. You remove this barrier when you highlight and applaud their talents!
-
Jealousy among teammates. As you create a sharing talents culture, highlight everyone’s diverse talents. Let everyone know what those talents do for the organization. Then invite them to discuss how all the talents help everyone reach success.
-
Rigid rules and job responsibilities. Where there is hierarchy, people get annoyed if someone is moving in on their “territory.” Discuss this with the team. Lead for collaboration and make rigid rules less rigid.
-
Lack of awareness. Many people don’t see their own natural talents. Help them see their own talents. Ask employees to highlight each other’s natural talents.
-
Culture of blame. How many times have leaders asked me, I know they can do more. Why don’t they? Very often they are afraid to stick out their necks and share their talents. They don’t want you to blame them if something goes wrong. Replace the culture of blame with a learning culture where people share their natural talents!
Get Started & Highlight Their Talents!
Employees of every generation will like this opportunity to share their natural talents. It recognizes who they are and appreciates them for it. You will keep the talent you hired and all of you and the business will shine.
